Grape Tempranillo (Gran Reserva, 48 months oak)
Producer Valduero
Region Ribera del Duero, Spain
Vintage 2012
Classification Gran Reserva
Oak aging 48 months in oak barrels

Gran Reserva is the highest classification in Spanish wine law: a minimum of 5 years total aging, with at least 18 months in oak. Valduero’s 2012 Gran Reserva goes considerably further — 48 months in oak barrels, producing a wine of extraordinary complexity and depth after 12 years of total development from vintage to today.

2012 was an excellent vintage in Ribera del Duero: warm, dry, and producing wines of great concentration that have aged beautifully. This wine is drinking now at peak complexity.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet, evolving at the rim. Complex nose of dark fruit, leather, cedar, dried herbs, tobacco, and the specific tertiary character that decades of development produces. Silky tannins and a long, complex finish. A wine that shows what Ribera del Duero can age into.

Food Pairing

Roast lamb, suckling pig, venison, aged Manchego, black truffle dishes. A Gran Reserva demands a serious table.
