Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's greatest wines — 100% Sangiovese Grosso from the sun-drenched hills around the hilltop town of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, aged for years in large oak botti before release, and capable of developing over decades in the bottle. San Polino's approach takes this already-demanding philosophy further: biodynamic farming, minimal intervention in the cellar, and a commitment to letting the specific character of their Montalcino terroir speak without correction.

The Producer — San Polino, Montalcino

San Polino is one of Montalcino's most committed natural producers, farming biodynamically and making Brunello with minimal intervention. The estate's vineyards sit in a specific part of Montalcino with particular soil and microclimate conditions that give their wines an exceptional purity and terroir specificity. The "Helichrysum" — named after the everlasting flower that grows wild on the property — is their standard Brunello expression.

About the Vintage

2018 is widely considered one of the finest recent vintages in Montalcino — a season of ideal conditions that produced wines of great concentration, freshness, and balance. San Polino's 2018 is a wine of exceptional character that will develop beautifully over the next 15–20 years.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet with ruby highlights. Complex nose of ripe cherry, dried flowers, tobacco, dried herbs, and the specific earthy mineral depth that Montalcino produces. Full-bodied on the palate with concentrated, well-integrated tannins and vibrant natural acidity. Long, mineral finish. A serious wine that rewards patience.

How to Serve

Decant for 1–2 hours. Serve at 17–18°C. Best drunk now with significant decanting or cellared for 10–20 more years. This wine is in no hurry.

Food Pairing

Rare-roasted beef, braised lamb, wild boar, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, truffle dishes. A wine for the table's most serious moment.
