The Slatnik is the second pillar of Radikon's Oslavia production — a blend of Chardonnay and Tocai Friulano made with the same extended skin contact, large old oak aging, and zero-addition philosophy that defines every wine from this legendary estate. Where the Sivi is all Pinot Grigio precision and copper-mineral focus, the Slatnik is broader and more generous: the Chardonnay providing body and weight, the Friulano providing aromatic freshness and the characteristic almond bitterness of the variety.

The Producer — Radikon, Oslavia

Stanko Radikon, who died in 2016, was one of the most important winemakers of his generation — the man who, alongside Joško Gravner, rebuilt the entire concept of white wine through extended skin contact and minimal intervention in the village of Oslavia. From Radikon's home, you can carry a plate of freshly cooked polenta to Gravner's cellar and still eat it piping hot. The estate is now run by his son Saša, in exactly the same spirit.

Winemaking

Chardonnay and Tocai Friulano co-fermented with extended skin contact in large old Slavonian oak vessels. No sulfur dioxide added at any stage. No fining. No filtration. Aged for multiple years before release.

Tasting Notes

Amber-gold in colour. Dried apricot, orange peel, almond, chamomile, and the specific ponca soil minerality that only the Oslavia hillsides produce. Broad and generous on the palate, with real tannin from the skin contact, high natural acidity, and a long, mineral finish. More immediately approachable than the Sivi, with slightly more fruit generosity.

How to Serve

Serve at 14–16°C. Open at least one hour before serving. A large-bowled red wine glass allows the aromatics room to develop.

Food Pairing

Aged hard cheese, prosciutto, charcuterie, fatty pork dishes, roast duck, spiced dishes from Asian cuisines. The tannin and high acidity make this one of the most food-versatile wines in our range.
