Ocho Do U Believe? Mtsvane 2023
The 2023 Ocho "Do U Believe?" Mtsvane is a striking "amber" (orange) wine from the Kakheti region of Georgia. Produced by the Ocho winery—a project dedicated to organic practices and the preservation of Georgia’s endangered fauna—this wine is a textbook example of ancient, low-intervention winemaking. The name "Ocho" refers to the protector of forests and wild animals in Georgian mythology, and the labels often feature local wildlife to raise awareness for conservation.
An intensely aromatic wine with a mix of dried apricots, honeysuckle, and orange blossom, you’ll often find a distinct "earthy" layer of oolong tea and savory dried herbs like coriander. The palate is medium-bodied and dry. It features the "tannic tug" characteristic of Georgian qvevri wines, balanced by a refreshing, citrusy acidity (tangerine and lemon peel). The finish is savory and long, often ending with a touch of honeyed sweetness (despite being dry) and a stony, mineral snap.
