Merwah is one of Lebanon’s most ancient indigenous white grape varieties, grown at altitude in the mountains north of Beirut. It is genetically distinct from any European variety and produces wines of a specific mineral, apricot-and-quince character that carries the specific quality of Lebanese mountain terroir. Eddie Chami at Mersel Wine makes this as a 100% Merwah dry orange wine — 3 weeks on skins, natural cold settling, unrefined, unfiltered. Nothing added, nothing removed.
Tasting Notes
Dry and orange in character. Notes of fresh peach and quince lead the way, with the textural grip from the skin contact and the mineral depth that Merwah produces in these mountain vineyards. Aromatic, complex, and completely specific to Lebanon.
How to Serve
Serve at 12–14°C. Open 20 minutes before serving. Works beautifully as both an aperitif and with food.
Food Pairing
Mezze, grilled fish, hummus with herbs, tabbouleh, kibbeh nayyeh, aged white cheese. The wine of the Lebanese mountain table.
