Dalia Gaamez 2023
Climate: Continental with hot dry summers and harsh winters, even though in the last three years has been experienced considerable increases in temperature and mild winters. The temperature often reaches 40 degrees in the shade and the lack of summer rain cause serious hydric stress, especially for young plants.
Terrain: Southwest facing and 3 km from the Timok River. The soil is a mixture of clay, sand and silt, with a good limestone content, and very rich in nutrients. The vineyards are positioned on 150 meters in elevation, with an average of 265 sunny days a year. The strong day-night temperature variations allow an excellent technological and phenolic maturation of the grapes.
Farming: In full respect for nature, without the use of synthetic molecules, herbicides, or pesticides
Vinification: Hand harvested in early September. Natural fermentation thorugh 100% carbonic maceration for one week and 5 days of classic maceration in open vessels. Aging 8 months in inox tank. Without clarification or filtration. Total SO2 < 30 mg/L
Notes: Centuries ago, during phylloxera, the French found that the Negotin valley was a prized region for high-quality grapes, and with easy trade, the villages of Rajac, Rogljevo and Smedovac became wealthy wine-growing villages. After French vines recovered and through geopolitical turmoil in the Negotin region, much of the active viticulture went dormant. Yet, many influences still remain to this day, such as the presence of juicy Gamay in this region, which young passionate producers such as Kristina are working to revive.
Inspired by this heritate and her winemaking experience in Beaujolais, Kristina produced 'Gaamez' as a first of its kind in Serbia - a "glou glou" Gamay: Fresh, light, and fruity - meant to be drunk easily and on everyday occasions. Great refreshing acidity, with flowery and bright, yet dark fruity aromas, sustaining a perfectly balanced medium body and finish.
